An executive toy, an educational device or just exciting to watch?
Our LTD (Low Temperature Difference) Stirling Engines run on any warm surface (i.e. a cup of coffee, TV, computer monitor, a human hand, etc.). They simply require a small difference in temperatures.
They work both ways, so they'll run backwards when placed on a cold surface (i.e. snow or ice). These engines are a great gift for any person, who likes technology or physics.
The engine demonstrates several scientific facts and phenomena which makes it a useful educational item for physics, engineering and thermodynamics in particular. We have sold countles numbers of engines to schools and Universities around the globe. Our engines have been endorsed by the University of Oxford, the Waseda University in Tokio and the University of California in Berkeley to name just a few.
Our Solar engines work the same way.
Due to the glass top plate and the specially coated displacer piston they are heated due to solar radiation also.
Therefore our Solar engines run in sun light and under a lamp in addition to the standard mode.
